Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” ~ Matthew 19:14
READING: Matthew 18:10-14
My heart was pulling me to plant a church in a particular village and so my team and I began to pray every day that God would provide a way. After many days of no answer I saw a vision of ice cream in front of me.
“Weeks of no answer and now you show me ice cream! I want a church, not ice cream!” I cried. Yet my team and I continued to pray, not understanding what that vision might have meant or if perhaps we were being divinely mocked.
Several days later, while praying with the team, we were distracted by the ringing of a bell. We looked up to see a young man pushing an ice cream cart and ringing his bell to attract customers. My mind flashed back to my vision of ice cream a few days earlier. Aha!
After asking the salesman how much for the entire cart, we bought the remaining ice cream and took it to the village, passing it out to the children. On the third consecutive day of handing out free ice cream, we brought along an elder and a Sunday school teacher.
Together we asked the kids: “Who is giving you free ice cream?” After hearing a variety of responses, our team explained that it was Jesus who will give them free ice cream.
This first introduction to Jesus was given to eighty children and now more than sixty families attend what has become known in the community as the Ice Cream Church.
Dear Lord, Thank you for answering the prayers of our ministry team and for giving us creative ideas to stir widespread community awareness and interest in our new church. Amen.
