Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house . . . ~ Psalm 128:3a
READING: Genesis 2:15-25
God so thoughtfully created everything in advance for man. He never said “it was very good,” until woman – the suitable helper – was made. Man was made complete by having a woman that God made. Since the omniscient God made Eve, apparently she must have been perfectly suitable for Adam.
“A wife of noble character who can find?” (Prov. 31:10). Although God created women with the potential for perfect suitability, not necessarily every woman exhibits the fruits of their God-given virtue.
The woman you have is God-given and the perfectly suitable one for you. She has a God-given “perfect-suitable” ability to stand with you in every way possible, if not now, at least in the future. If your wife is like Manoah’s wife, praise God. Make full use of her counsels and contributions. If she is like Sarah, keep working with her – do not say she is useless. She is a little weak but faithful. If she is like Sapphira, pray for her but do not dishonor her and don’t yield to her as Ananias did. Instead, lead her into maturity through your godly example and your tender love and care. If she is like Job’s wife, take time to tutor her to understand your calling, commission and purpose.
The psalmist says that blessed is the man who fears the Lord (Ps. 128:1). This reverential fear is the fertilizer, which will cause her inbuilt “suitability” to bear fruit. Let your call and vision be made hers. Communicate with her convincingly. Bind her with your love. Be her hero. You will see how blessed you are because of her. She is just made for you and for your calling.
Lord, Help me to see the potential of my wife. Make us mutually complementary as we serve You. Fulfill Psalm 128 in our lives. Amen.
