The Great Commission calls us into the task of making disciples. We can learn about this task from our Lord, who was the master of making disciples.
Jesus not only showed us how it’s done, he empowered us to do what he did. I’m not talking about evangelism, I’m talking about making disciples.
I’m afraid that too many pastors and churches are operating without a proven system of discipling people and caring for people. You cannot build a healthy church without having workable systems in place.
Discipleship is the great calling of the church, and the only soil that grows disciples is a local church culture of spiritual formation. Every other ministry of the church can (and should) grow from this soil.
Discipleship, we suppose, is for those few super-saints called into the ministry, and so we are trapped in the fellowship of low expectations.
